| OVERVIEW |
General information: Centre for Ocean and Ice (COI), at the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI), provides the MERSEA Baltic Sea component.
We run an operational production of forecasts of the physical oceanographic conditions for the North Sea - Baltic Sea system using the DMI-BSHCmod 3D-ocean model. The model is based on the BSHCmod 3D-ocean model developed at Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH), Hamburg, Germany. The DMI version and model set-up of the model code is named DMI-BSHCmod.
DMI-BSHcmod is a 3 dimensional finite difference hydrodynamic model. The model has been run in an operational sense at BSH since the early 1990s and at DMI since 2001. The model is set up in spherical coordinates in the horizontal direction and in the vertical with z coordinate. The calculations are done on an Arakawa C grid.
Quality / Accuracy / Calibration information: Annual validation reports are produced at DMI. Wih verification against sea level tide gauges, temperature and salinity in-situ observations.
